HXD3C Class electric locomotives
The HXD series (known as 'harmony') are the most modern electric locomotives in China set to replace the ShaoShan series. They seem to lack the flair of many of the SS series, however they are certianly imposing and impressive beasts. The HXD3C's are designed to be interchangable between freight and passenger. Their top speed is 120kph and with a power output of almost 10,000hp, makes them suitable for lines with steep gradients. Production started in 2010 with the first units coming from Bombardier, with the rest of production under way at Dalian Locomotive Works.
