Photographs of the Wangkui Railway

The Wangkui layout was my first serious attempt at a decent railway layout which came to an end in late 2010 after nearly 4 years due to a change in domestic circumstances. It took up a very large 24' x 12' (8 meter x 4 meter) room designed specifically to house it. The layout was a fictitious railway line based in Heilongjiang province connecting Daqing to Suihua thorugh Anda and Wangkui.

The bulk of the track work used was Peco Code 83 streamline (US style). unfortunately when the track was ordered Peco had not yet released their concrete track, however the standard wood sleeper variety is still a very nice product, much nicer in appearance than the usual code 100 stock. Also used were some handmade point and double slips, which although fiddly, gave us a little more flexibility for certain bits of trackwork that the commercial products would allow. Underlay material was cork.
